Neatherd Dance Academy

Neatherd Dance Academy. We are thrilled to announce that the groups that regularly meet and dance with Miss Carter De Bois in school at lunch times will become collectively known as Neatherd Dance Academy. Miss Carter De Bois who is a qualified ITDA dance teacher as well as being a highly regarded member of Neatherd’s staff will lead NDA. She will be supported by members of the Creative Arts Faculty, especially Miss Dark who is a dance graduate with experience with professional dance companies in addition to her teaching experience. Our aim as NDA is to offer classes and workshops covering a range of styles, including ballet, contemporary, tap and musical theatre. We hope that the move to one collective group will give students a sense of identity as Neatherd dancers, as well as a feeling of inclusivity within a forum where dancers of all ages and abilities are welcomed and supported Miss Carter De Bois and Miss Dark hope to offer familiar performance opportunities such as participation in the talent show, dance shows and the school production. The school even has its own Neatherd Dance Academy website enabling Parents/Carers to purchase dancewear and accessories at very reasonable and competitive prices. This website is exclusively for the use of the students that attend Neatherd Dance Academy. Miss Carter De Bois is also exploring possibilities for inviting dance professionals into school to work with our students during after-school sessions. Proposed trips and events will include excursions to see live dance at local venues such as the Theatre Royal and to experience dance festivals and competitions. The re-branding of Neatherd Dance will also include a bespoke “dance uniform”. We hope that this will promote a collective identity and will give students a sense of pride when they represent themselves and their school during trips and events. Naturally there will be expenses involved in the running of trips and workshops and for the purchase of uniforms. We hope that parents will be able to support us in this respect. In return, we will endeavour to raise money to help subsidise expenses where possible through fund-raising activities. We will also work closely with the school to access funding families who need financial assistance to ensure that no-one misses out on dance opportunities at school. Please feel free to contact Miss Carter De Bois with any questions or suggestions you may have. . . . . .

Cyclists Get Yourself Seen

Cycling to school is an excellent lifeskill which we wholeheartedly encourage. Kids develop road sense, independence and fitness. But....we’ve noticed far too many pupils cycling with no lights, no helmets and no hi-viz. Motorists are concerned too. Please help your children to prevent accidents. They weren’t brought up watching public information films like we were. https://youtu.be/1MFuSMz1zh0

Request from our gardening club.... The gardening club have come up with a long term plan on how to make the school garden even bigger and better than ever – we want to provide an outdoor educational site that produces lots of organic food for the canteen, food technology, pupils, staff and the community! We have made a list of materials we would love to get our hands on whilst being as sustainable as possible and sourcing them second hand. If you have any of the following items, please get in touch with Mr Anderson to pick them up or drop them off at the main reception. · Wellies, coats, gloves, overalls (weatherproof gardening clothes!) · Wooden pallets, planks, sleepers, MDF boards, logs. Any reusable building supplies. · Shovels, spades, rakes, hoes, axes, hammers. Any building tools or supplies. · Watering cans, piping, guttering, IBC water containers, large plastic sheets to catch water – we are desperate for water storage! · Old sinks, baths, old horse boxes, sheds, shipping containers. · Wire netting, chicken fencing, wooden or metal posts. · Old tractor or car tires, large plant pots. Please get in touch if you have any of these items you could donate, or know anyone who might be able to help out with our search! Mr Anderson

Press Gang Interview - Trans Remembrance Day

Press Gang member Jessica from Year 8 interviewing Mr O'Brien about the transgender day of remembrance tomorrow (November 20th). Pupils were taught about the day during form time today. TDoR is observed annually on 20th November as a day to remember those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia an to draw attention to the continued violence endured by the trans community. TDoR was founded in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a trans woman to mark the murder of a trans woman Rita Hesler in Massachusetts. It was originally a web-based project but has become an international day of action with over 20 countries taking part, including the UK. A TDoR memorial will usually involve a name reading, candlelight vigils arts shows, food drives, film screenings and marches.

Activities Week 2019 Booklet.docx

Dear parent/carer, Before half-term all pupils will have received an Activities Week Booklet that explained about the new Activities Week, that is taking place in July 2019. An assembly was also given to explain the new format of the week. The booklet has information on the different activities available. There is a Choices Form at the back of the booklet that needs to be handed back so that we can allocate activities to pupils, without the form coming back in pupils are unlikely to get an activity they would like. The deadline for handing the Choice Form back was today, but we still do not have forms for every pupil yet. We are extending the deadline to Monday 5th November, so that more pupils can get activities they would like to do. Please note that the Italy and Battlefields trips are both now full. The Activities Week Booklet is attached, it is only the Choice Form on page 31 that would need printing and handing back. All Choices Form must be handed to Mr Sinclair who will be outside the Student Reception before school or at break time on Monday. Mr Sinclair https://ift.tt/2Cfix6o

Rugby news! Huge congratulations to the Year 7 rugby team, who with very few hours playing time under their belts, went to the salubrious grounds of Norwich School and WON FOUR, DREW TWO! A great result for a state school. They will now be drawn in the top tier! Thank you to Mr Miller and the team. Also an equally huge WELL DONE to the Year 8 team who beat Aylsham last Wednesday by 6 tries to 2, avenging last year's defeat.

Y10 Football News, Coach Barron reports: "The year 10 boys went to Thetford tonight for their second fixture of the season. We played some very strong football and really should have won the game comfortably! However, we lost 2-1! Go figure! We went down the 15% gradient hill in the first half and had effort after effort on goal, but only managed to score 1 through Bailey Barrett. Towards the end of the first half Thetford managed to break our offside trap and slot past Lewis Pears to equalise. Going up the hill second half actually suited us a little better, we played some great football and had about 9, 1 on 1 chances where we could have scored, unfortunately it was them who got the winner with 10 minutes to go. The boys tried and tried but couldn’t get back into the game." Effort – 10/10 Motivation 10/10 Teamwork 10/10 Shooting - 0.1 /10 ! Neatherd Parent Portal/App

School re-opens for the children on Thursday, normal time 8:45. Please remember water bottles and sun cream. It is winter uniform - blazers, shirts and ties. Tailored shorts are part of our uniform too. Pupils will be allowed to remove blazers in classrooms when instructed by the teachers. Pupils will NOT require their PE kit for the first PE lesson, which will be about their options and requirements for the year. School meals are £2.30 for main course and dessert, or £1.80 for just main meal. All payments are via Parent Pay and use the cashless system. Contact office@neatherd.org if you need to be set up with Parent Pay. This is not connected to the Parent App which shows timetables, attendance, behaviour events etc. Please visit https://ift.tt/2yBipdf to read on how to access the app. If you already have a log in to the older Parent Portal system, you will need to set up an App account. Due to GDPR, the App log-in information is controlled by the users, not the school, so follow the instructions if you forget your details. New Year 7 pupils are NOT on the school database until Thursday, so do not panic if your Little Cherub is not on the App just yet! If you have any questions, please post them here to help others. In the meantime, enjoy the last few days of summer!

Careers update: Apprenticeships: From Paul Parker at the council. "Good morning; apologies for a long email but some (hopefully) useful information for you. Linked below this weeks’ live opportunity listings from FAA / NAS. Some positions to highlight this week – ATB Laurence Scott, Hardy Road Norwich are seeking - VAC001424081 – (Level 3) Engineering Technical Support Apprentice VAC001424040 – (Level 3) Apprentice Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer VAC001423157 – (Level 2) Apprentice Electrical Engineer all with training via City College Norwich. MSI Defence Systems, Salhouse Road, Norwich seeking - VAC001423826 – (Level 3) Technical Apprenticeship – Manufacturing Operations VAC001423799 – (Level 2) Technical Apprenticeship – Manufacturing Operations with training via East Coast College. Remember, to get full details of any positions - you need to search for the particular vacancy details on the national Find an Apprenticeship website – www.gov.uk – click on ‘Education and Learning’, then ‘Apprenticeships 14 to 19 education & training for work’ then scroll to ‘Become an Apprentice’, click on ‘Find an Apprenticeship’ then ‘Search’ the find an apprenticeship service’ where you can then enter the particular vacancy reference number (ie VAC001420713) in the ‘keywords (optional)’ box. This will bring full details of the position, including entry qualification requirements, hours of work etc details and also how to apply. It’s not as hard as it sounds!! Can also keep the link as a favourite, makes things easier. Norwich Jobcentre, Kiln House, Pottergate, Norwich, NR2 1BZ are holding a ”Young Persons Marketplace” on Tuesday 24th July 12-2pm. Aimed at 16-24 year olds, there will be a mixture of employers and training providers on hand who will be able to answer any questions about apprenticeships, training courses, current opportunities available and will be a great help for anyone considering their next steps. Our Apprentice Advisers will be there! Also of interest is the information below with an update on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) (thank you Jacqui from Lola Stafford Consulting for sourcing this) - The PCDA will be available in very early adopter forces from September 2018, for those who wish to earn while they learn. This will be a minimum of 3 years and will be funded by the Police force and if successful the apprentice will be awarded the PC Degree and confirmed in post. Some forces may offer the Degree Apprenticeship earlier than others and for this reason it is suggested that applicants contact the force wish to join. The College of Policing have created a virtual platform where applicants can check force vacancies, recruitment campaigns as well as volunteering and development opportunities across England and Wales. This platform has lots of useful resources that can be accessed from your mobile or desktop device, as well as the ability to live chat with those doing the jobs now and the PEQF implementation team. There are various links in the lobby area which I am sure will be useful. Registration is via https://ift.tt/2NDqN3f. Further details regarding the PCDA can be found here. The Police Constable Degree provides details of the standard including the knowledge, skills and behaviours required. The Police Constable Assessment is available on the right hand side of the page providing detailed information regarding assessment at the end of the apprenticeship. The College of Policing is supporting the Policing Vision 2025 in gaining recognition of the police service as a profession by introducing a number of new entry routes for police constables which is part of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). A project of this size and importance will take a number of years to implement. Once the graduate level programmes are introduced there will be a timed phase-out of the current Initial Learning Programme. It is advisable to contact the force you are interested in joining to enquire about their recruitment policy as each force has different timescales and requirements (some require the applicant to have completed the Certificate of Knowledge in Policing (CKP)). Forces are in a better position to advise on which qualification and subjects each require. The College webpages provide detailed information on the PEQF, Recruitment, CKP and the Initial Police Learning Development Programme (IPLDP) along with some frequently asked questions that may be useful. PEQF - https://ift.tt/2L35LsW PCSO - https://ift.tt/2NFciMs PCDA - https://ift.tt/2L1scyO Police Constable Recruitment - https://ift.tt/2NClbWR CKP - https://ift.tt/2L1dtnt IPLDP can be found at https://ift.tt/2NG0rNV The CKP is a level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework which is funded by the individual. Further consideration is being applied as to how to manage the transitional phases of the PEQF. Details of any proposed timelines for withdrawing the CKP will be published as soon as they are confirmed. We do not expect the PEQF to be fully implemented by all forces until after 2020. We do not have a definitive list of Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) that will be delivering the Degree in Professional Policing or when they will have them available. It is possible that (very) early adopting HEIs / forces will have access to a deliverable programme from September 2018. Updates to the PEQF will be published on the College webpages. The University degree route will be funded by the individual. The education qualification required to join via the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) route is a minimum level 6 available to graduates of any discipline. The minimum duration will be 2 years, on successful completion the officer will achieve a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice. The course will be funded by the Police Force and may be available from September 2018 in some forces. Are You Getting It

As part of the Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education curriculum for years 9, 10, and 11, Dereham Neatherd High School is committed to cover the subjects of Relationships and Sexual Health. An integral part of this is highlighting the risks of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) as well as the promotion of, young people’s rights and safer sex for when young people are ready and chose to have a sexual relationship. The school has invited a trained member of staff working at Dereham Children’s Centre to come into the school and address the year 9 assembly on Monday 23 April to make students aware of a scheme backed by Norfolk County Council’s Public Health and the local NHS; and run locally through Dereham Children’s Centre, called C-Card. Homework is changing - presentation for parents.pptx

Year 7 and 8 homework changes. All pupils in Y7/Y8 will receive two things today: A Neatherd High School Core Knowledge booklet and a red A4 exercise book ("The Red Book"). We are making a change to the homework structure for Year 7 and Year 8 pupils beginning next week. After evaluation of the current system including parent consultation at our recent parent forum, we realised improvements could, and should be made. Senior leaders have looked at models used in other successful schools as well as reading current education research and theories around homework. From now on homework will be very simple. Every evening, students in Year 7 and Year 8 are expected to complete 30 minutes of revision and self-quizzing for each of the subjects listed below. Monday - English and history Tuesday - mathematics and geography Wednesday - science and society & ethics Thursday - languages and technology Friday - creative arts and computer science • Students will use Core Knowledge booklets to revise/learn the content required for each subject • Students provide evidence of their learning/revision in their Core Knowledge workbook (The Red Book). Students should complete two sides of A4 each night, which will cover both subjects. • Students should follow the advice on the Self-Quizzing help sheet that is stuck in the first page of The Red Book • Mathematics homework will be based on the Maths Watch online software. • For languages we recommend spreading out the 30 minutes homework in to smaller chunks throughout the week. Checking homework: • Form tutors will check The Red Book during form time every Friday. They will give a grade: Excellent, Pass or Fail. It is important that The Red Book is in school every Friday. • An “Excellent” grade and 25 house points will be given when students produce outstanding quality homework • A “Fail” grade will be given when students fail to complete homework or the work is not satisfactory in quantity or quality. This will lead to detentions so that they can catch up with essential work. The presentation given to all year 7 and 8 pupils this morning is here: http://ift.tt/2qUeHLL We will share the Core Knowledge booklets (online) with you next.
