Neatherd High School gets rewarded for international activities Dereham Neatherd High School is very pleased to have been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. “Neatherd has been holding this accreditation already for over 10 years, it highlights our successes in the field of international links and we are proud that our students and staff benefit from such rich experiences”, says Headteacher Peter Devonish. “It is very important that students understand the importance of their role as citizens in the wider global community and the impact they can have on the world.” Neatherd’s international work includes annual trips to Iceland, Italy, Normandy and the Battlefields in Belgium and France. The school also enjoys a partnership with a Chinese school in Shanghai with regular exchange visits. Another enrichment for the curriculum are the numerous global activities taking part throughout the school year, from Multicultural Day for Yr7 students, Spanish Taster Days, assemblies with an international background and the very successful scheme of our International Prefects. Recently the school has been involved in a Comenius project with a school in Estonia, sharing ideas and comparing the different teaching methods across Europe. The latest activity was the international work experience project the school is involved in with a partner school in the Czech Republic. Last week some of the Business Academy students were in Dereham to complete a week of work experience at local companies, including the Library and Barclays Bank. Thomas Nissen, Project Manager from the International School Award congratulated Neatherd on their achievement. “I hope that the scope of your excellent international activities will continue to develop and benefit the school community,” he says.
