Open Mornings 2018 - thank you to all the teachers, pupils and staff who welcomed 148 families through the red door over 11 days. A very special thank you to Mrs Da Silva for the organisation! We hope the experience helped your children feel at ease about life at high school, and wish you all the best whatever school you may choose for 2019.

eSafety information. This morning, our pupils received the fourth eSafety email bulletin, and this one was about staying safe on social media. You're probably aware that here on Facebook is regarded as being the social media site for 'oldies' :D. Your children may be more familiar with the likes of Instagram, which is mainly image-based and requires very little reading or writing...here is a useful information page about it for parents: https://ift.tt/2Pt49OM

Here are the results of the competitions held in the Maths department at Open Evening. The lucky winners of the Maths Treasure Hunt are Rhianna Baines (Dereham C of E Junior Academy) and Daisy Knock and Jack Knock (Scarning Primary). They managed to find their way all around the school answering the Maths questions and discovering the secret message. Estimations…. There were a grand total of 1183 jelly beans in the jar so well done to Elliot Bilverstone (Toftwood Junior) who guessed an impressive 1198! We had a tie at 501 pom poms from Eva Matsell (Scarning Primary) and Molly (Thomas Bullock Primary) who were incredibly close as there were actually 504 pom poms!! Finally the weight of the pumpkin got a lot of you thinking, young and old! The lucky winner here with a weight of 3.5kg was Lauren Stocks who was impressively close, as the pumpkin actually weighed 3.48kg! Well done to all those who took part and for our lucky winners your prizes will be making their way to you soon!

December 18th is the next “non uniform day” for charity. This is the day we break up for Christmas. The suggested donation is £1 per family, given to form tutors in tutor time. Please do not feel pressurised by shops to buy “Xmas Jumpers”. If you wish to make an outfit festive, add some tinsel, holly or mistletoe. There are no “non uniform days” until then. 👍

Rugby news! Huge congratulations to the Year 7 rugby team, who with very few hours playing time under their belts, went to the salubrious grounds of Norwich School and WON FOUR, DREW TWO! A great result for a state school. They will now be drawn in the top tier! Thank you to Mr Miller and the team. Also an equally huge WELL DONE to the Year 8 team who beat Aylsham last Wednesday by 6 tries to 2, avenging last year's defeat.

Y10 Football News, Coach Barron reports: "The year 10 boys went to Thetford tonight for their second fixture of the season. We played some very strong football and really should have won the game comfortably! However, we lost 2-1! Go figure! We went down the 15% gradient hill in the first half and had effort after effort on goal, but only managed to score 1 through Bailey Barrett. Towards the end of the first half Thetford managed to break our offside trap and slot past Lewis Pears to equalise. Going up the hill second half actually suited us a little better, we played some great football and had about 9, 1 on 1 chances where we could have scored, unfortunately it was them who got the winner with 10 minutes to go. The boys tried and tried but couldn’t get back into the game." Effort – 10/10 Motivation 10/10 Teamwork 10/10 Shooting - 0.1 /10 ! Thanks to the boys for representing: Lewis Pears Luke Goldsmith Elliot Bowes Jack Gilding Ben Wilson Bailey Barrett Andre Ford Archie Wakefield Hector Frith Tom Brown Matt Way Liam Whiting Gwilym Hughes Zak Collins-Idi Sam Filby

Arts news, Mrs Sanderson writes, “I am organizing a trip to the ballet: Theatre Royal Norwich on 22nd November. This will be an evening performance that I am opening to all year groups. It’s essentially a fun trip out for anyone who loves the ballet, Christmas, oversized mice, wooden men with sharp teeth and theatre design. There will be 50 tickets available but I cannot guarantee places. Tickets will be allocated on a first pay can have basis but tickets will only be put on to Parentpay to those students whose parents make a firm expression of interest. To do this students need to come and get a letter from me (drama office or DT4) OR their art, drama or music teacher. There is a medical consent form attached to the letter that I will use as an expression of interest so that I will put the first 50 repliers will have the option to pay for the trip on to parentpay.”
