Neatherd High School: Message to parents and carers of children at Neatherd, from the headteacher. Dear Parent/ Carer I am taking the unusual step of writing to update you about two incidents in school. I hope that this prevents any misinformation that may be around and, crucially, will reassure you that your child is very safe in our school. Last week a child was found carrying a kitchen knife in school, allegedly for protection. A brave witness informed staff of this first thing in the morning and the student was immediately apprehended and the police called, who confiscated the knife. The child is no longer at Neatherd and no children were harmed. Early this morning we were alerted by a parent of a separate incident involving a child stating on social media that he/she would bring a gun onto the school site. Police were immediately called and responded rapidly, meeting the child on arrival at school. The child was arrested and searched by the police, who found no weapon. The child is not on the school site and again, no children were harmed. Students have been informed in assemblies yesterday and today and also in messages given to them by their subject teachers today.
