Message to parents and carers of children at Neatherd, from the headteacher. Dear Parent/ Carer I am taking the unusual step of writing to update you about two incidents in school. I hope that this prevents any misinformation that may be around and, crucially, will reassure you that your child is very safe in our school. Last week a child was found carrying a kitchen knife in school, allegedly for protection. A brave witness informed staff of this first thing in the morning and the student was immediately apprehended and the police called, who confiscated the knife. The child is no longer at Neatherd and no children were harmed. Early this morning we were alerted by a parent of a separate incident involving a child stating on social media that he/she would bring a gun onto the school site. Police were immediately called and responded rapidly, meeting the child on arrival at school. The child was arrested and searched by the police, who found no weapon. The child is not on the school site and again, no children were harmed. Students have been informed in assemblies yesterday and today and also in messages given to them by their subject teachers today. I hope that this gives you the clarification and reassurance you need before the weekend. We have also sent this as a letter attached to an email to all parents. Yours Peter Devonish

It's FLD1 (Flexible Learning Day 1) tomorrow, and lots of pupils are going out on trips. Y7 are going up to the North Norfolk coast, Y9 are going to the science museums in London and Y11 are going to Norwich Castle for history field work. Here's a summary of what to wear/bring! Year 7 - check the weather forecasts and wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Pupils will be walking along the beach at Wells and the wooded section at the back - sandy and soily - no need for wellies really but some kids wear them. Could be cold so hats/gloves/scarves may help. Take food for the trip - nothing smelly as they are on a coach! Times will be as normal and back for the buses. Year 11 - smart school uniform - it is a day-long history lesson and there will be other schools in the castle too. Bring food, pupils will not be allowed to leave the site for lunch. Bring pens and notepads - museum guides will be teaching the classes key features for the exam. Times are as normal. Year 9 - school uniform - drop pupils off at school for 0545 hours (5:45am) and expect them to be back 1830hrs (6:30pm) earliest - arrival depends on traffic (think M25 - M11 - A11 - A47!!!) . Bring packed lunch and drink (free school meals packed lunches are provided).
