Neatherd celebrates LGBT History Month 2017. Today we welcomed award winning author, journalist and activist Juno Dawson. Juno talked openly about LGBT, her own transgender experiences and transition, identity, being yourself, having nourishing friends and taking care of your wellbeing to Y8, Y9 and 10 supporting her school role model for ‘Stonewall’. Students asked mature, well thought out questions and have gained a greater insight into the LGBT community. Following the talks Juno had a relaxed informal lunch with our ‘Strive for Pride’ group who presented her with a gift pack from Neatherd.

Y8&9 boys' basketball update! Mr Anderson writes, "The combined year 8 and 9 team tipped off their basketball season last night, you could smell the nerves on the way there. Our inexperience showed in the first quarter as we went 6-0 down within minutes. Once Neatherd began to get a feel for the pace and flow of the game, we defended with intensity and began to make our comeback. Jake Melton lead the charge with 6 points in the first half, he ended up with a total of 12. Being tall always helps in a game that involves putting a ball through a 10 foot hoop. What Kane Clark lacks in height he makes up for with athleticism and superior dribbling technique, he bulldozed his way to the basket for two excellent layups. We entered the 4th quarter with a 1 point lead, true champions rise to this type of occasion which our boys did magnificently. We stopped the ball crossing the half and ran down the clock with the last possession to seal the game. The end score was 23-22, the first of many wins to come. Thanks to Coach Lyons for some expert refereeing and Coach Hood as transport coordinator. If you see the boys around school give them a big congratulations. Girls' football update! The year 8 and 9 girls football team played against their Northgate rivals last night on the astro. They played really well and worked hard together all the way through the match, with some stand out performances from Tash Ward, Arden Scott and Alexis Mitchell as well as Ellie Ampleford dominating in the middle. Unfortunately in the first half we decided we would give them a 6-0 head start……..however at half time we completely changed! We scored two really well-constructed team goals through Alexis Mitchell and Arden Scott and managed to win the second half 2-1. Final score 7-2 to Northgate, but they have been training and playing a lot lot lot longer than us, as shown by their central midfielder who scored 4 of their goals (3 from outside of the area!) who ran the show for them! Please congratulate the girls if you see them! More fixtures to be arranged!! Cheers COACH BARRON Squad: Trin Donachie Tash Ward Arden Scott Lilly Arnold Charlotte Calvert Beth Holland Leah Ellis Ellie Ampleford Jasmine Hudson Grace O’Reagan Bronwyn Neil Milly Ogden Lynzi Vecchio
