Christmas Hampers 2016 Pupils and staff from Neatherd High School have been busy collecting and packing Christmas boxes which the local Foodbank will deliver to families in need of food supplies over Christmas. “I wanted to strengthen our links to the local Foodbank with this project”, says Mrs Jacobs, Head of Upper and Lower School. According to Foodbank there will be about 140 families in the Dereham area who will be in need of a food parcel over Christmas. “We wanted to help to at least provide a third of those parcels”, says Mrs Jacobs. Representatives from the Dereham foodbank came in to tell Neatherd’s students how Foodbank works and what they have been able to achieve over the years. Every form group then received a blank cardboard box which they had to fill with non-perishable food items from a list provided by Foodbank. In a house-competition the students also decorated their boxes in Christmas themes to make them look bright and cheerful. Leah, Johnny, Jack and Ellie judged the boxes according to their presentation and their content. “It was fun filling and decorating the boxes”, says Emily from Year 11, “everyone should be happy at Christmas time and food plays a big part in it – this is a really great idea”.
