The Lockdown Diaries - Fly Festival 2019

We had lots of trips to universities organised for the summer term for our "more able" pupils in years 9 and 10 - however they've obviously been postponed. However our friends at the UEA outreach office are still doing work. One of which is this: The Lockdown Diaries – Creative Writing project (age 11-16) The Lockdown Diaries was launched this week by UEA’s Festival of Literature for Young People. The project invites budding writers to reflect upon their experiences of the nationwide lockdown and share their highlights, insights and struggles through creative writing. The project will offer a series of activities, competitions and digital content for students to engage with over the coming weeks. Students who submit their writing stand the chance of winning a prize as well as having their writing published in The Lockdown Diaries anthology; a local collection of work which will be illustrated, printed and distributed to Outreach partner schools in the autumn term. The Lockdown Diaries launched with an 8 Week Challenge series for students and their families to complete at home. The online challenge is comprised of a weekly short-form creative task which students are asked to complete in 50 words or less. The challenges will encourage students to write in unique formats, including a novel in a tweet, a three-word poem, or a cliff-hanger sentence. The first challenge was set by author and FLY Patron, Alexander Gordon Smith, challenging students to write an acrostic poem or acronym using the word LOCKDOWN. For further information, please visit the FLY website https://ift.tt/3bXugFc, or email FLY@uea.ac.uk if you have any questions. The final challenge will be posted on Monday 25 May 2020, after which a new activity will follow.
