Careers update: Apprenticeships: From Paul Parker at the council. "Good morning; apologies for a long email but some (hopefully) useful information for you. Linked below this weeks’ live opportunity listings from FAA / NAS. Some positions to highlight this week – ATB Laurence Scott, Hardy Road Norwich are seeking - VAC001424081 – (Level 3) Engineering Technical Support Apprentice VAC001424040 – (Level 3) Apprentice Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer VAC001423157 – (Level 2) Apprentice Electrical Engineer all with training via City College Norwich. MSI Defence Systems, Salhouse Road, Norwich seeking - VAC001423826 – (Level 3) Technical Apprenticeship – Manufacturing Operations VAC001423799 – (Level 2) Technical Apprenticeship – Manufacturing Operations with training via East Coast College. Remember, to get full details of any positions - you need to search for the particular vacancy details on the national Find an Apprenticeship website – www.gov.uk – click on ‘Education and Learning’, then ‘Apprenticeships 14 to 19 education & training for work’ then scroll to ‘Become an Apprentice’, click on ‘Find an Apprenticeship’ then ‘Search’ the find an apprenticeship service’ where you can then enter the particular vacancy reference number (ie VAC001420713) in the ‘keywords (optional)’ box. This will bring full details of the position, including entry qualification requirements, hours of work etc details and also how to apply. It’s not as hard as it sounds!! Can also keep the link as a favourite, makes things easier. Norwich Jobcentre, Kiln House, Pottergate, Norwich, NR2 1BZ are holding a ”Young Persons Marketplace” on Tuesday 24th July 12-2pm. Aimed at 16-24 year olds, there will be a mixture of employers and training providers on hand who will be able to answer any questions about apprenticeships, training courses, current opportunities available and will be a great help for anyone considering their next steps. Our Apprentice Advisers will be there! Also of interest is the information below with an update on the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) (thank you Jacqui from Lola Stafford Consulting for sourcing this) - The PCDA will be available in very early adopter forces from September 2018, for those who wish to earn while they learn. This will be a minimum of 3 years and will be funded by the Police force and if successful the apprentice will be awarded the PC Degree and confirmed in post. Some forces may offer the Degree Apprenticeship earlier than others and for this reason it is suggested that applicants contact the force wish to join. The College of Policing have created a virtual platform where applicants can check force vacancies, recruitment campaigns as well as volunteering and development opportunities across England and Wales. This platform has lots of useful resources that can be accessed from your mobile or desktop device, as well as the ability to live chat with those doing the jobs now and the PEQF implementation team. There are various links in the lobby area which I am sure will be useful. Registration is via https://ift.tt/2NDqN3f. Further details regarding the PCDA can be found here. The Police Constable Degree provides details of the standard including the knowledge, skills and behaviours required. The Police Constable Assessment is available on the right hand side of the page providing detailed information regarding assessment at the end of the apprenticeship. The College of Policing is supporting the Policing Vision 2025 in gaining recognition of the police service as a profession by introducing a number of new entry routes for police constables which is part of the Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). A project of this size and importance will take a number of years to implement. Once the graduate level programmes are introduced there will be a timed phase-out of the current Initial Learning Programme. It is advisable to contact the force you are interested in joining to enquire about their recruitment policy as each force has different timescales and requirements (some require the applicant to have completed the Certificate of Knowledge in Policing (CKP)). Forces are in a better position to advise on which qualification and subjects each require. The College webpages provide detailed information on the PEQF, Recruitment, CKP and the Initial Police Learning Development Programme (IPLDP) along with some frequently asked questions that may be useful. PEQF - https://ift.tt/2L35LsW PCSO - https://ift.tt/2NFciMs PCDA - https://ift.tt/2L1scyO Police Constable Recruitment - https://ift.tt/2NClbWR CKP - https://ift.tt/2L1dtnt IPLDP can be found at https://ift.tt/2NG0rNV The CKP is a level 3 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework which is funded by the individual. Further consideration is being applied as to how to manage the transitional phases of the PEQF. Details of any proposed timelines for withdrawing the CKP will be published as soon as they are confirmed. We do not expect the PEQF to be fully implemented by all forces until after 2020. We do not have a definitive list of Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) that will be delivering the Degree in Professional Policing or when they will have them available. It is possible that (very) early adopting HEIs / forces will have access to a deliverable programme from September 2018. Updates to the PEQF will be published on the College webpages. The University degree route will be funded by the individual. The education qualification required to join via the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP) route is a minimum level 6 available to graduates of any discipline. The minimum duration will be 2 years, on successful completion the officer will achieve a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice. The course will be funded by the Police Force and may be available from September 2018 in some forces.
