Homework is changing - presentation for parents.pptx

Year 7 and 8 homework changes. All pupils in Y7/Y8 will receive two things today: A Neatherd High School Core Knowledge booklet and a red A4 exercise book ("The Red Book"). We are making a change to the homework structure for Year 7 and Year 8 pupils beginning next week. After evaluation of the current system including parent consultation at our recent parent forum, we realised improvements could, and should be made. Senior leaders have looked at models used in other successful schools as well as reading current education research and theories around homework. From now on homework will be very simple. Every evening, students in Year 7 and Year 8 are expected to complete 30 minutes of revision and self-quizzing for each of the subjects listed below. Monday - English and history Tuesday - mathematics and geography Wednesday - science and society & ethics Thursday - languages and technology Friday - creative arts and computer science • Students will use Core Knowledge booklets to revise/learn the content required for each subject • Students provide evidence of their learning/revision in their Core Knowledge workbook (The Red Book). Students should complete two sides of A4 each night, which will cover both subjects. • Students should follow the advice on the Self-Quizzing help sheet that is stuck in the first page of The Red Book • Mathematics homework will be based on the Maths Watch online software. • For languages we recommend spreading out the 30 minutes homework in to smaller chunks throughout the week. Checking homework: • Form tutors will check The Red Book during form time every Friday. They will give a grade: Excellent, Pass or Fail. It is important that The Red Book is in school every Friday. • An “Excellent” grade and 25 house points will be given when students produce outstanding quality homework • A “Fail” grade will be given when students fail to complete homework or the work is not satisfactory in quantity or quality. This will lead to detentions so that they can catch up with essential work. The presentation given to all year 7 and 8 pupils this morning is here: http://ift.tt/2qUeHLL We will share the Core Knowledge booklets (online) with you next.
