The meat free meal for four cook off competition took place last night, unfortunately Carter and Fry did not enter a team due to last minute ingredient issues and sickness. Kett (Chloe, Angelika and Emma-Leigh and Mrs Waterfield) found head to head against Cavell (Ellie, Elsie, Tamar and Miss Cross). Cavell decided to cook a starter, main and desert complimented with a smoothie drink. Greek pastry bites, yellow pepper pizza, chocolate drizzled donuts and a carrot smoothie were absolutely fantastic. However due to difficulty of the menu board, Cavell ran out of time to have everything tidied up and cleaned. Kett went for a simpler menu of Presto pasta – a spaghetti dish burning with nutrition and flavour. Spinach, pepper, onion, broccoli and quorn chicken as a meat replacement delighted the judged taste buds from the first mouthful. Both teams were fantastic sports, everyone had a taste of each other’s dishes which was really nice to see (Disappointed I didn’t get more donuts though!). Cavell earnt 135 points for their valiant attempt at a three course dinner, but Kett won the evening earing 156 points on the judges score card. Each member received 20 merits a head and received a cooking apron for use in future competitions! Thanks to everyone that popped in and said hi, as well as staff who helped out along the way. Our students enjoyed a very productive day on Wednesday at ‘Step into Sports Leadership Camp’ at Easton College & were coached by Jade Windley, tennis player who won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games and was on the Wimbledon Tennis circuit until she was injured recently.

It's wellbeing week for the hard-working year 11 students as they prepare for two weeks of revision in the Easter holidays before their GCSE exams. Students have been enjoying lunchtime and after-school activities such as yoga, cooking, darts, FIFA, sports and dance. Today was an emotional assembly as they read personal letters of encouragement from their parents and/or members of staff. We wish them all the best - work hard!

Neatherd High School Dynamic

Miss Harris's Neatherd Dance Dynamic Show packed Dereham Memorial Hall last Thursday, with over EIGHTY dancers aged between 8 and 18. Four different Neatherd dance groups, including one all-boys' one. Big dance groups from Scarning and Hockering primaries all performing for the first time, hugely supported by parents. Massive 45-strong dance club performance. Individual and duets from GCSE and A-Level students like Maddie P, Zak F, Ciaran C and Charlotte Canham. Special performance by Downham Market Academy dancers, twenty of them, doing their first live performance. The grand finale being the first dance performance by Neatherd dancers to live music played by two of our music students. After previously winning the County finals, Neatherd KS3 girls badminton team travelled to Thetford to represent Norfolk in the Badminton England Schools Regional Finals. The team consisting of Jasmine, Evie, Katherine, Jess and Abbey, breezed past Cambridgeshire (represented by Comberton School) 5-0 and then beat Bedfordshire (represented by Cedars School) 4-1. These great results took them straight through into the final against Essex (represented by Chelmsford High School). Chelmsford fielded an exceptional team with two players that frequent the National circuit, one of which is ranked within the top 100 female players in England. Our girls put up a spirited fight in all of their games, but finally succumbed 5 games to 0. All returned to school sporting very well earned silver medals. With grateful thanks to Mr Miller and his PE department for allowing us to enter this competition, and to all the volunteers which made our travel possible. Faye LeBon (coach)

Today we held our Carnegie Shadowing Reading Group. Thanks to the Friends of Neatherd we have 4 sets of each title available for students to participate in shadowing this most prestigious children’s book award, often described by authors and illustrators as 'the one they want to win' - they are the gold standard in children's literature. Still plenty of opportunity to get involved see Mrs Gill in the library.

Y7 Boys' Football: Neatherd 1-2 Northgate. Coach Barron writes, "The year 7 boys took on their Northgate rivals on the astro last night! The boys played some really good football and just about shaded possession throughout the game. Unfortunately, we allowed Northgate to have a 2-0 head start as their powerful right winger burst past our defence twice. We hit the post, we hit the bar, Devin Chen pulled a goal back and we missed countless other chances…….but it did finish 2-1 Northgate. The boys did really really well though!"

Y10 Boys' Football: Neatherd 8-0 Northgate. Coach Barron reports, "The year 10 football team played against their Northgate rivals on the astro in the pouring rain last night! I have to say they were absolutely brilliant and managed to win the game 8-0. It has always been fairly close between the two teams with Northgate always narrowly getting the better of us ever since our cup win against them all the way back in year 7! However, the boys finally got all they deserved last night with some great attitude and determination, plus some strong tactical decisions from the management ;)! Neatherd's World Book Week was a resounding success. The whole school community was reminded about the power of reading. Authors came and visited, Harry Potter World was visited,assemblies were held, writing workshops were taught, books were swapped, literary-themed cakes baked (and eaten), book-related costumes were worn and above all, everyone read, in silence, together, every day. Hats off to Mrs Hunt and especially our fantastic librarian Mrs Gill, who put in months of planning and organisation. She is pictured here with our Patron of Reading, author Alex Scarrow, whose support is funded by many of the activities this week and across the year. The day ended as it had done all week, with the enjoyment of reading.

Visiting author Alexander Gordon Smith spent the day @Neatherd. Gordon is well known for his Escape From Furnace horror series and gave an amusing talk to all Y8 and Y 9 students followed by fun and though provoking creative writing workshops throughout the day.

Year 8 Boys' Football Report - Iceni 1-1 Neatherd. Coach Barron reports, "Hi all, The year 8’s went to Iceni yesterday to play their league fixture – it was ridiculously cold!! We dominated the game from start to finish and would have won comfortably in bigger goals, but typically our long spells of possession, countless shots and strong spells of dominance counted for no more than a 1-1 draw. Zak Collins-Idi scored a beautiful goal…..Tom Brown missed a penalty (probably best not to talk about it!). Year 11 at home v Iceni tonight! On the astro after school! Come out and watch! Boys' Rugby Y10: Neatherd 32-0 Northgate. Mr Miller reports, "In years 7, 8 & 9 we won this fixture easily. However, the Northgate team this year have been well-fed and physically were now much more of a challenge. We played well early on, worked hard, scoring plenty of tries but each one was hard fought – so it was physically a very demanding game. The fixture was played in correct spirit, but I have to say it was a well-deserved and clear cut win for us. (NB Absolutely no confusion over the offside law at any time)"

World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March is non uniform for students who choose to come dressed as a named character from a book/ comic strip/ magazine (not just a film). If they choose not to dress up then they must wear their normal school uniform. If students want to come dressed as named characters who wear normal everyday clothes then they must show that they are that character by using ‘props’ from the book i.e.- if the character uses a camera and writes news stories then they must create a ‘press pass’ and wear an old camera around their neck. Muggles are not ‘named’ characters… If they choose to come to school in costume then they must be dressed appropriately- no hooped earrings, short skirts, low cut tops etc… The cost for dressing up is £1 per family which goes to pay for a patron of reading. Currently we have Alex Scarrow as our Patron of Reading and all students are benefitting.
