Music Department Christmas Concert: Ho Ho Ho it’s Chrissssssstmas Wednesday night’s Christmas concert was a mixture of new and old faces and voices. Musicians included the amazing blues band with their energetic rendition of the Madness classic, “One Step Beyond”. This brought back a few memories for many parents and teachers and almost had Mr Devonish dancing in the aisles! Talented singers and assorted instrumentalists sang and played in a range of styles; blues, classical, pop, rock and Christmas songs. A festive highlight of the evening was the ukulele orchestra with the addition of Liam Hubbard on washboard who performed a Christmassy version of Vance Joy’s Riptide, rewritten by Oscar Futter as Yuletide! Sadly, the Christmas concert will be the last one for our Year 11 students. Fortunately though, the talent displayed by singers and musicians in lower year groups will ensure that music will continue to go from strength to strength at Neatherd. Many thanks go to all of the teachers and parents who helped organize the concert and especially to our peripatetic teachers, Mandy Slater and Nia Howe for their musical input. Very special thanks go to Tash, Reenie and Lilimae Nicholson for providing an array of homemade cakes for the interval. Reef's Castle Project
At Neatherd we like to let students show off their learning using as wide a range of skills as possible. Reef in Y7 decided to construct his castle for history homework using Minecraft, the popular video building game. We also have an over-subscribed Minecraft club every day with Ms Waterfield and Mr Gibson every lunchtime.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Neatherd High School and Dereham were host to 5 students from a Business Academy in the Czech Republic recently who came to do one week of international work experience in the town. 2 of the students helped in different departments at our school and the other three were kindly able to spend a week in the Dereham Library, at Grove House Infant School and at “Homeworks” Estate Agents. Design Technology update - So we had the grand finale for our woodwork club gravity racers today. Some excellent work from the members, many of whom had never lifted a saw before. Wellbeing Evening at Neatherd - Tue 6 Dec, 6pm in Canteen. On average, three students in every class will suffer from poor mental health. Most mental health issues will emerge during the years our young people spend at secondary school. At Neatherd, we take a whole school approach to mental health awareness and now we want to extend that to the whole community. Our third annual mental health community event will take place on Tuesday 6th December. It will start at 6pm and will take place in the Canteen. The event this year will be focused on how we can create a kind, safe and healthy environment both in school and at home. Neatherd Xmas Cook-Off 2016 Last night saw the conclusion of the two day special Neatherd Christmas cook off. Two teams from each house competed, cooking a wide selection of festive inspired dishes from around the world. On Tuesday Miss Mullineux and her Kett team – Maisie and Nancy walked away with the dish of the evening. A Dutch inspired Hutspot potato and onion mash complimented with Pepernoten, little spiced biscuits. Last night Mr Mayhew was dealt a raw hand having two of his Y11 boys drop out last minute, presumably to focus on their mock revision. Representing Kett alongside Courteney they managed to create two types of German market inspired biscuits along with an alcohol free (I promise) Gluhmost – orange and cinnamon infused apple juice. All scores from both nights have been added together to have an overall winner, well done to Kett house taking first place having secured victory over both nights. I have included all of those who competed and helped out, so if you see any of them around school please give them a big congratulations. The next bake off event will be in the new year, with a slight change in the application process (more to follow….) A special thanks to Mr Scahill, Dr Faulkner, Miss Mullineux, Jonny, Jack and Elena for judging. If anyone is interested in being a judge please let me know! The night also would have also ground to a halt without the help of Mrs Patterson and Mrs Phillipo in food tech, helping me out in sticky situations. Thanks guys. Christmas Hampers 2016 Pupils and staff from Neatherd High School have been busy collecting and packing Christmas boxes which the local Foodbank will deliver to families in need of food supplies over Christmas. “I wanted to strengthen our links to the local Foodbank with this project”, says Mrs Jacobs, Head of Upper and Lower School. According to Foodbank there will be about 140 families in the Dereham area who will be in need of a food parcel over Christmas. “We wanted to help to at least provide a third of those parcels”, says Mrs Jacobs. Representatives from the Dereham foodbank came in to tell Neatherd’s students how Foodbank works and what they have been able to achieve over the years. Every form group then received a blank cardboard box which they had to fill with non-perishable food items from a list provided by Foodbank. In a house-competition the students also decorated their boxes in Christmas themes to make them look bright and cheerful. Leah, Johnny, Jack and Ellie judged the boxes according to their presentation and their content. “It was fun filling and decorating the boxes”, says Emily from Year 11, “everyone should be happy at Christmas time and food plays a big part in it – this is a really great idea”.

Year 10 Boys Foorball news. The year 10 boys played against their Wymondham College counterparts last night on the Neatherd astro. Despite the freezing temperatures and greasy surface, the boys played some excellent football and strung together a heap of chances. They ended up winning the game 5-1, with goals from Tom Mackay, Joe Howard, Pete Da Silva and Charlie Dickerson (2). Please say well done to the team if you see them. That was the last game before Christmas! Y8 Girls' Football Tournament - Report by Mr Fisher Great day had by all the girls. A very tough standard was met head on by our gang who tried there hardest and had a lot of fun. ( I know this means that they did poorly and lost all but one game, but they played their socks off and left every game smiling and took a lot away with them I hope) Real improvement from all of them. Today selected Y7 and Y8 classes were treated to creative writing sessions with a top selling author, @BillyBobButtons. The workshops were designed to highlight how to plan a good a story and for students to understand the importance of specific techniques in creating an adventure story with interesting characters. Year 11 have been making the most of this opportunity for some final revision and preparation for mock exams. In four intensive thirty-minute revision sessions, they have covered all aspects of their Language and Literature mocks. Each sessions focusses on revising exam content and skills and carrying out some shared planning. The morning concludes with thirty minutes of independent study in which students can use their planning to practise one of their exam questions with teachers on hand to offer help and advice. Subject choices at school and college
Making informed choices for A-Levels. The senior leadership team at Neatherd are currently interviewing every student in Year 11 to check on their readiness for exams, and their applications for Post-16. This follows on from the recent Post-16 Options Evening, the Raising Achievement Evening and the Careers Mock Interviews. Some students expressed interest in the pathway to Russell Group universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, London, etc. This website gives advice on making informed choices for A-Level subjects. Kids' Lit Quiz 2016 - A great event again- @LitchamLit won for the third time- there’s always next year!! Neatherd students made poppies for Remembrance Day - a report by Chloe and Hannah (Year 11) We learnt to make poppies in The Link and made these poppies as a mark of respect for the British soldiers and the people who died in the wars. 1916 was the Battle of the Somme and 420,000 died fighting for their country and for us as well. We made these poppies, because handmade poppies we think, show that you have spent time and have made an extra effort to show respect compared to the paper ones you can get. Hannah and I think highly of Remembrance Day, because we both had family members who fought in the war, and it is very special to us and our hearts. I always watch the Remembrance Day programme on television because it is special seeing all of the war veterans going down the road next to the Cenotaph, and the Cenotaph is a special place for First and Second World War army personnel. This day, November 11th, in school you had two minutes silence remembering everyone who lost their lives, and the two minutes are held as a mark of respect across the UK. Hannah and I are very privileged to have made poppies in the Link for this day, and we were both able to take our poppies, to be sold to raise funds for the British Legion, to R J Bartram & Son in Dereham who raise funds for the Legion, and do this to remember all those who died serving their country.

Neatherd's Got Talent 2016 - report by Mrs Sanderson and Mr Owen Once again, Neatherd’s students proved just how much talent they have. The annual talent show took place on 10th November. The weather outside was cold, wet and miserable but the atmosphere inside was electric! The usual mixture of singing, dancing and amazing musicianship was on offer with a few familiar faces taking part in what will be the final NGT before our Year 11 leave Neatherd in 2017: Emily Gibson, Liam Hubbard, Nathan Codling, Harry Sutton, Jess Irving, Cerys Blake and Hannah Bavage. We also say farewell to Harrison Matwij who usually participates in all musical events. Harrison, in his role as Head Boy judged the show alongside Lucy Kirk who was due to perform but had to pull out at the last minute due to illness. Lucy, however, stepped in as our female student judge when Head Girl Emily Jessop couldn’t attend sue to a prior commitment. Thanks Lucy! The Judges’ Vote was awarded to Luke Maxwell and Hannah Coe, both Year 9 students. Luke and Hannah performed “Popular” from the hit West End musical, “Wicked”. Their number combined fabulous acting talent with astonishing vocal range and proficiency. Neither Sorrel, Hannah nor Luke has taken part in NGT before and will certainly be booked up for the forthcoming Christmas Concert! Other newcomers to Neatherd’s got Talent included Rachel Dye and Melissa Linstead who sang beautifully. The Audience Votes went to Sorrel McDermott as runner-up. Sorrel sang in Japanese and delighted the audience with a smiley, up-beat electro-disco-inspired Jap-pop-song. Sparks took the first prize from the audience with a slick and focused contemporary dance performance. Classical instrumental performances were provided by Naomi Vogel on her flute, Ellena Meachen on clarinet. Also, Alex Sidney, Year 9, gave a very moving performance on “Mad World” on keyboard, accompanied by Lizzy Vogel on her cello. Lizzy appeared as keyboard accompanist to a number of other performers, including Jess Irving who opened the show with a rousing musical theatre number. George Crisp returned to his first love – rock guitar after offering a magic act last year. Apparently George has been so busy gigging that he didn’t have time to polish up any more magic tricks for this year! Other acts included Lilimae Nicholson who performed a contemporary dance solo for us and Ryan Selwyn performed a medley of film music on keyboard. Singer songwriters Cerys Blake and Hannah Bavage closed the show with a soulful duet characterised by haunting “honey-covered” harmonies, as described by judge Mrs Williamson. Mr Devonish was humbled by the girls’ performance as he was by that of Katie Lee who is stepping ably into Hannah and Cerys’ shoes with her rich, mature vocals and superb guitar. Katie delivered her own composition to rapturous applause. A high point in the night for us was the musical combo-collective, made up of some of the most talented musicians for Years 8-11. It was such a delight to see and hear our talented musicians getting together during their lunch breaks to rehearse together and to play before a truly receptive audience. Most performers have been mentioned elsewhere but not the incredible ukulele trio: Beth Windle, Ben Bilverstone and, last year’s winner, Oscar Futter. Just brilliant! Technical support was offered by Harry Sutton, James Kimber and Aaron Nicholson, refreshments and moral support were provided by Tash and Renie Nicholson, Mrs Gill, Joy Bolton and Mandy Slater – so thanks chaps! The Art department would like to remind you that your child’s GCSE Art and/or Photography work from 2015-16 will be ready for collection from 3:30pm – 6:30pm on Tuesday 15th November 2016 from the Art Department. This coincides with the Y11 Certificate Presentation Evening. Work not collected after this time can no longer be stored by the school and will regrettably have to be disposed of. If collection during this time is inconvenient, please email me on the address below and I will ask the Art technician to arrange collection. Life skills classes that are really worth something! As part of the Life Skills course Mrs Williamson has arranged for year 11 students to learn about plastering in a practical context. Mr Taylor will guide the students through the different aspects that are required to plaster to a good standard. This week students were working on boarding up. Next week they will then progress to plastering the boards. Students have been fantastic and even coming back in their lunchtime to continue with the work.

Year 10 boys' football update - The team went across to Wayland Academy last Thursday to play our league fixture. We played very well and dominated the game from the off eventually winning 7-1. Year 11 Mock Interview Days 2016 Dear parents and carers On Thursday 10th and Friday 11th November external professionals from different employment sectors, i.e. Law, Health, Science, Sports etc will come into our school to conduct "mock" job interviews with every pupil in Year 11. Your son/daughter will receive an interview time shortly. Interview Day is an opportunity for the students to practise for a future job and college interview. Past students have reported that they found the mock interviews very beneficial as they felt more confident when attending their “real” interviews. The interviewers will give the students some feedback on their interview manners, appearance and the quality of their application document. There is no need for our students to be nervous about the process as the interviewers come in to help our students and to support them. To prepare themselves for the interview students should consider the following: 1. Have an idea of some questions they may be asked about their selected job and have some questions ready to ask the employer, i.e. necessary qualifications / working hours etc. Students are allowed to bring a prompt card to the interview. 2. How to make an impression e.g. looking the part, positive body language, good manners. We ask the students to dress appropriately for the day as if they were attending a real interview, for example a suit/smart jacket and trousers for the boys and a suit/jacket and skirt/smart trousers for the girls, it is NOT necessary though to purchase new clothing just for this event. The pupils are expected to treat the occasion in a professional manner. If you have got any queries regarding the format of the days, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Broughton at school. Neatherd High performs at @NorwichPlay (Playhouse Theatre), in the National #ShakespeareSchoolsFestival (Long but brilliant post from Mrs Sanderson!) Students from Years 9 and 10 have been working on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” since June 2016. The culmination of their hard work paid off when, last night, 3rd November, they performed in front of a paying, public audience at the Playhouse Theatre in Norwich along with 3 other local schools. The students actually started the project when they were in Years 7 and 8. I asked all Key Stage 3 students to consider creating a performance of a shortened Shakespearean script. My intentions were partly to help them improve their understanding of Shakespeare’s language and to increase their ability to interpret and direct scripted drama. Also though, at the back of my mind, was the idea that our students should showcase their talents in the nationally acclaimed Shakespeare Schools’ Festival. Our first foray into Shakespeare’s world was a performance of As You Like It. Students performed as Year 7s and 8s in The Creative Arts Evening and as part of the opening celebrations for the school library – in the library itself. They went on to perform as Year 8s and 9s to an audience of friends and parents at Dereham Sixth Form College. After As You Like It, most of the cast were really “up for more!” so the application to take part in the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival was submitted, accepted and we were on our way! Rehearsals started in June 2016 and last night students’ efforts, time and energy really paid off. At the end of the night, one of the festival’s professional theatre directors gave feedback to the four schools who performed at the Playhouse. Comments on Neatherd’s “The Tempest” heaped praise on the cast because of their creative and energetic interpretation of the text, “that gripped the audience’s attention from start to finish.” Throughout the workshops and rehearsals at The Playhouse in the run up to the performance, directors and technicians for the festival expressed how impressed they were that our students had come up with so many ingenious and physical ways to interpret Shakespeare’s language, characters and story so that the text could be accessed on so many levels. They agreed that students are often put off from studying Shakespeare because there are so many weird words and there’s such a lot of listening to do! With our performance they said, “You could see and therefore understand what characters were talking about because the language was communicated and reinforced through movement. I had to confess to them that my role in the project largely consisted of me having to rein in students’ creativity as they had so many ideas that our maximum running time limit of 30 minutes could have easily run over to an hour to accommodate everything the cast wanted to do. Audience members commented after the show that they had liked the balance we had achieved through a mixture of beauty and grace in the performances of the four Ariels: Charlie Dickerson, Rebekka Hartley, Mia Johnson and Latasha Ward and knock-about comedy provided by Stephano, Trinculo and Caliban: Adam Littleproud, Amber Macey and George Rolland-Barry. The Ariels were supported by Elizabeth Vogel and Ellna Meachen as “wanna-be” Ariels and narrators. Moments of serious and sinister content were provided by Vincent Joisce, Louise Godin, William Rodwell and Amelia Morse as Antonio, Alonzo, Gonzalo and Sebastian who are consumed by grief, envy and a desire to kill! The love story between Ferdinand and Miranda was played beautifully but very much tongue in cheek by Pearl Williams-Elley and Sam Lockhart. Pearl and Sam also did the school proud with an on-the-day interview for local radio. Perhaps the hardest job of all fell to Charlie Dente who played the enigmatic magician Prospero whose character is often linked with William Shakespeare himself. Shakespeare wrote the play toward the end of his career as celebrity playwright and impresario so that, just as Shakespeare was bidding farewell to London and his theatrical career, so Prospero bids farewell to his island, his spirit companions and to his magical powers by destroying his spell book and magic staff: “This rough magic I here abjure . . . . . . . . . . I’ll break my staff, Bury it certain fathoms in the earth, And deeper than did ever plummet sound I’ll drown my book.” Charlie handled Prospero’s iconic speeches masterfully and carried the show to its conclusion as all but Caliban, Stephano and Trinculo set sail to leave the island. Neatherd students once again showed what amazing performers, choreographers and directors they are in their contribution to the festival. They thoroughly deserved the rapturous applause they received at the end of the night. Business as usual to day though as all members of the cast are involved in rehearsals for the school’s annual production and various musical functions! Acknowledgement and thanks are also due to Miss Costenbarder who joined our team in June as co-director and dialogue coach and to Miss Harris who helped and advised students with choreographic ideas for key moments in the action. Professor John Shepherd visits Neatherd geography. This morning a group of 80 Year 10 and Year 11 geographers and scientists received a 45 minute talk from Professor John Shepherd about climate change. We were privileged to welcome Professor Shepherd to the school, who has a CBE for his work on oceanography and climate change and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society. The students experienced a thoroughly informative talk about the reasons why our climate is changing and the potential impacts these changes could have on our earth. Professor Shepherd stayed behind afterwards and spoke to some Year 11s individually and answered any of their questions.

Hallowe'en Bake-Off Tuesday night saw the return of the Bake Off competition with a Halloween theme. After much deliberation, the winning team was Cavell, who took first prize with their fantastic ‘eyeball chocolate cake’. The Judges were very impressed with their artistic talents. Please congratulate Mrs Coxon, Elsie, Lucie and Grace for their well deserved victory. The final standings were - 1. Cavell 2. Carter 3. Kett 4. Fry Commiserations to Miss Cordle and her Fry team who gambled with a graveyard themed cupcake selection. A special mention to Mrs Fitt, Mr Coleman and Dr Faulkner who has the very tough task of eating cakes and dishing out scores. The next Bake off competition will be help in December with a Christmas theme, there are already 3 teams on the waiting list and lots of pupils dying to get involved, so the format will be changed slightly to allow as many of the pupils to participate as possible. The dates will be announced closer to the time. If you would like to get involved as a nominated adult, judge or just a helping hand please give me an email. Overdue library books. Dear Parent/carer, Reminders have been sent out to students who have overdue library books. At present we have over 400 books that are overdue and despite several previous reminders through form time and library lessons students are unfortunately still 'forgetting' to return their books. With the amount of books overdue it has impacted on providing a poor service to your children where popular books are not available to borrow. With this in mind I am requesting your help and support in encouraging your child to return their books on time. All overdue books MUST be returned by this Friday 4th November- any that are still overdue by more than four weeks will have a charge of £6.50 placed on your Parent Pay account which will remain in place until either the book is returned or charge has been paid to replace the missing book. Your child may also find that they will not be able to borrow a book from the school library until the book is returned which may hinder their progress and pleasure of reading. Students are allowed to borrow up to three books for a loan period of two weeks and can be renewed after this period should the need arise. Any books that are lost or damaged must be replaced. Neatherd High, a @SAFoodForLife Gold school, celebrates #RoastDinnerDay with members of the Dereham Community. Every year on National Roast Dinner Day Neatherd High School joins in with kitchen chef Graeme Baker and team cooking up a feast of different roasts with all the trimmings. This event is not only popular with the pupils and staff at Neatherd, but the school also invites members of the local community along to join in with the event. Pupils from Toftwood Infant and Toftwood Junior School were tucking into their dinners together with residents from local care homes. Old and young enjoyed their meals, chatting away over their roast potatoes. “We are very proud of our Food For Life Gold status”, says Stewart Anderson, Neatherd’s Environment and Sustainability Coordinator, “and we like to boost it further by involving the whole community with it and getting them involved with cooking and eating healthy food.”

Library News - Alex Scarrow Visit! Yesterday Y9 students were treated to the first visit from our school Patron of Reading, Alex Scarrow. Alex is renowned for his ‘Time Riders’ series but came to launch his new series ‘Remade’ about a mutating virus that takes over the world. Alex will be visiting the school throughout the academic year working with students across the year groups in creative workshops, competition and a host of other activities. (Patron of Reading has been funded by our non-uniform day on World Book Day 2016)

Post-16 Options Evening WEDNESDAY 19th October We have invited local colleges, academies, training service providers and potential employers into school to enable you and your child to discuss the different options available. You will be able to speak to the different organisations and ask them questions on an individual basis. Students do not need to wear school uniform for the event. The evening will start with a brief presentation in the canteen. If your child is in house Kett or Carter, you are asked to attend the presentation in the canteen at 5.30pm. After this you will have the opportunity to speak to the different providers in the sports hall. If your son or daughter is in house Fry or Cavell, we would invite you to attend the presentation in the canteen at 6.15pm. After the presentation you will then also have the opportunity to speak to the different providers in the sports hall. Where possible please stick to your allocated time so we can stagger the numbers. If you are unable to make either presentation please feel free to come along later and speak to the providers in the sports hall, they will be available until about 7.45pm. Year 11 Football News: The year 11 team unfortunately lost 2-1 against their Wymondham College opponents last night. However, they put in a really good performance which was especially difficult when they only had 11 players due to call offs; plus then going down to 10 men early in the second half with an injury. Self-Esteem Counselling Service with Shelly. Hello everyone, my name is Michelle Savage but most people call me Shelly. I’m covering the maternity leave of the school counsellor Mrs Hall and I will be with you for the whole school year. I’m based in the old Link Office in the entrance to the Humanities Building (by the way, we’re trying to think of a more catchy name for the room so let me know if you can think of one). My job is to listen to pupils who are going through tough times or need a little bit of extra support. My training is in person-centred counselling which was pioneered by an American psychologist called Carl Rogers. He said “when someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without trying to take responsibility for you, without trying to mould you, it feels really good.” So my job is to create a safe space where pupils can talk without fear of being judged. The sessions last 30 minutes and we start with six sessions and then do a review to see if the pupil needs more. If you would like to see me, you need to contact Mr O’Brien. There could be a waiting list but don’t forget I’m not the only source of emotional support in the school. The reason I wanted to work at Dereham Neatherd is because I love the whole school approach to mental health. Why do people call me Shelly? Well for many years I’ve been a community filmmaker called Shelly Telly. I’m a creative person and I believe that one of the best ways to learn any skill, whether it’s filmmaking or self-care, is to have fun. I’ve been creating some resources with pupils to develop confidence – we are very proud of our new game “Self-Esteem Jenga”. Every brick has a top tip or word of wisdom taken from “The Little Book of Self Esteem” by Anita Naik. I’ll be doing some assemblies across the school year so I look forward to meeting you all at some point. Take care…..

School Council update The new members for 2016-17 met today with Mr O'Brien and Mr Humphreys. In attendance were: Rosie KET, Joshua CAV, Harrison FRY, Elisha CAV, Maisie KET, Niamh CAV, Sophie KET, Vick CAV, Jamie CAR, Tayler CAR, Jess CAV, Tiago FRY, Chloe KET, Vonnie KET, Ellie FRY, Abi KET Members expressed their key interests for the year as: House comps, sports, new sports, sports clubs, environment and litter, community spirit, colourful and pretty environment, inclusion and comfort, food and snacks, lunchtime and break-time behaviour, queues in canteen and queue jumping, respecting rules and each other, feeling safe, clubs, communication and contact, feeling comfortable and safe, stress and homework levels Delegates were asked to lead discussions with their houses over the next two weeks on "rewards". Including: House Points – Rewards Assemblies – Praise – Rewards Trips – Feedback from teachers – ATL - Success Shop What works well? What could be better? Girls' Rugby Development Day - report by Mr Fisher. Hosted by the Diss RFC Vixens at Diss RFC, this was a great event. Good day had by all at Diss Rugby Football Club with around 95 girls attending from different schools. Morning session was focussed on training and development of key skills. This was followed by a well earned rest and lunch break. The afternoon saw our girls play 4 back to back, full contact , games against rival schools. 3 wins, 1 loss- overall winners of the afternoon competition with the most tries. Excellent day had by all, two injuries (Chloe Webb in a sling unfortunately) and a great day ran by the RFU. But in the end a very positive and enjoyable day. Y8 Boys' Rugby report - Aylsham 15-30 Neatherd The boys did really well, they work tremendously hard and Aylsham are always well drilled. We won 5 tries to 3, but it was always a contest even when we were ahead. Bradley Dack and Will Hughes are outstanding. Year 8 Boys' Rugby - news update The new rules for tournaments at this level means there are no winners, no trophies, no finals. All teams in the county were seeded. There were 3 pools of 7 teams. We were in the top pool with Wymondham College, Wymondham High, KES and others. We beat last year’s finalists (Aylsham), but this was obviously going to be a tough day. We drew 3 games, lost 2 (but only in the last 2 minutes of each game). However we drew with the best team in the tournament – Wymondham High, so all the players had a tremendous day and did us all proud. Comment of the day from one of boys (in his first ever game): “Can I come off? I’m sweating!” Here is the squad: Lewis Pears, Kayhan Tokbay, Lewis Tomlin, Miguel Corte, Bradley Dack, Oscar Futter. On Thursday 15 July the School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) ventured out to the North Norfolk Coast to pay a visit to Wiveton Hall and Farm. Here, they enjoyed a personal tour from ‘Normal for Norfolk’s’ Desmond MacCarthy (BBC2) around Wiveton Hall to see first-hand how a farm can be diversified and make money in a number of different ways. They also enjoyed a delicious lunch consisting of one of the Café’s famous salad bowls and some fresh strawberries, meringue and cream- all from the farm. It was a beautiful sunny day and the pupils and staff really enjoyed learning about this little gem. We would really recommend that you pay a visit sometime this summer, but make sure you book! It was extremely busy, even today. Thank you to Mrs Gill for driving the mini bus so superbly and to Mrs Patterson. I think they all learnt a lot and had a great day! Miss Powell-Bowns

We are pleased to present our new Head Students for 2016-17. Head Girl Emily and Head Boy Harrison, along with Heads and Deputies of Carter, Evie and Megan; Cavell, James and Sophie; Fry, Georgia and Jack; Kett, Abigail and Harlie. Harrison and Emily begin their duties today at the Intake Evening where they will give speeches to the hundreds of guests present. Good luck to them all!

Presentations Day - Wednesday 20th July. Invitations have been sent out. This is a formal occasion at the end of the year, therefore we are asking all students, whether they are receiving awards or not, to attend in their smart 'winter uniform' - shirts, ties, blazers. The ceremonies are as follows, in the Sports Hall: Year 7 - P1 8:45-10.00 Year 8 - P2 10:15-11:15 Year 9 - P3 11:30-12:30 Year 10 - P4 13:30-14:30 If it is hot, students may wish to bring a summer school polo-shirt to change into at times outside the ceremony. Thank you.

Parking on Thursday evening. For the Sports Evening at 6pm, we’ve got permission to use: A) Dereham Football Club Car Park – please start parking near log cabins. B) Dereham Sixth Form Field – entrance via Neatherd Moor. We are encouraging parents to take extra time and park here for the sports evening at 6pm because we have two events on that night.

Neatherd British Sign Language Training...Deputy SENDCO Miss Caro writes, ‘Thank you to both the staff and members of the community who attended the British Sign Language taster session last night. Dereham Carnival - Sadly, Neatherd High School have had to withdraw their float entry for Sundays community carnival in Dereham due to lack of children volunteering for the event (only 10 came forward). To all of our incoming Year Six students and their parents and carers. We are all really excited to welcome you to Neatherd tomorrow and the following two days. We have friendly Junior Prefects ready to meet and greet you in the morning and escort you, so don't worry about getting lost! Please arrive between 8:30 and 8:40 if you can. Bring your pencil case, training shoes or AstroTurf shoes if you have them, and wear your current primary school uniform. We have lots of exciting lessons planned for you as well as tours of the big school. You will have dinner at midday, which is half an hour before the rest of the school. You will then have some free time to talk to friends old and new. Don't worry, everything will be great and you will soon wonder what all the fuss was about. Intake Evening is on Thursday so your parents can get more information.

New Intake Evening at Neatherd on Thursday 14th July It is not long to go until your child(ren) leave their Primary Schools and become pupils of Neatherd High School. We look forward to them joining us and hope they will be very happy at our school. We would just like to remind you about the intake arrangements this year. The children will be at Neatherd for three days from Wednesday, 13th to Friday 15th July. The days will include a range of interactive and exciting classroom activities which will prepare them for life at Neatherd. On Thursday, 14th July at 7pm we will be holding our Intake Evening in the school canteen where parents / carers and students will receive more information about Neatherd and what to expect from September. If you haven’t yet signed up your child for Summer School (22nd – 25th August), there are still a few spaces left. Please contact Mrs Broughton at the school who can send you another application form. Please note that spaces are free for children who qualify for Pupil Premium Funding. Creative Arts Evening - It was a great night celebrating the outstanding work of the students in Creative Arts at Neatherd. There were fantastic musical items, dance pieces and drama performances. A great night had by all!

Neatherd Dance! On Saturday, Ignite attended the regionals for the UK Dance Elite Championship. They danced extremely well and will find out at the end of July if they are through to the live semi-finals in London. Due to a problem with the championship’s previous venue, the regionals were held at our school!
